Trending: Lighting as Art

Lighting as Art? It’s Minimalist Maximalism, a focal point in your room that sets the stage for the life you live. In this trend we’re using lighting in homes in less traditional ways, and as playful art pieces. Lighting is more than functional in lighting style, think statement pieces that shape the entire room.
It could be a grand chandelier like the image featured with this post. This fixture falls like water over a central staircase in the entry and it sets the tone for the rest of the house. Not fussy or contrived, it’s minimalist in a scale for pure impact.
Old fashioned interior design rules dissuade homeowners from making a statement. Keep to the size chart or select a thoughtful pick that’s good for resale. Are you going anywhere? Then dream big. Embrace a statement piece that elevates your interiors. Recently we installed a cloud of light, 32” in diameter, in a beautiful powder room with a high ceiling. It was a fearless choice, and it wows you as you stroll past the doorway or pop in to wash your hands.
The larger the scale of the statement light the better. This trend is not subtle. We add ambient light and task light where needed and let your piece of art shine. You’ll also find statement lighting in lamps, pendants and nightstand lights. The key is to keep everything else a bit quiet, allowing the focal point to sing out.
A few more thoughts: The drama does not demand a high ceiling. We can help you find a statement light that uses the ceiling, or we can hang your light like art over a seating area or dining table. And be sure to remember the bulbs. The right look and color temperature makes the fixture looks it’s best, and, we always add a dimmer.
