The dripped pattern on the surface of the Inoue Medium Vase was inspired by the art of Imperial Japan, particularly the rusticity of Zen ideals that arose during the Kamakura period. Made of porcelain, the black and off-white vessel is subtly rough to the touch and has a matte appearance.
